PLATFORM

Association of the Regional collections of contemporary art

Created in 2005, the Platform association gathers the 23 Regional collections of contemporary art around three objectives: • To foster group reflection about the Frac projects and issues • To establish a resource and information centre for its members and partners • To develop interregional and international exchanges and cooperation thanks to invitations from foreign commissioners.

Since 2003, driven by the Frac du Grand Est then with the coordination of Platform, projects have taken place in Italy and Poland (2003), in Spain and in the United Kingdom (2004), in Germany and in Slovakia (2005), in Israel and in the Czech Republic (2006), in Argentina, in Italy and in Romania (2007), in Belgium and in Lithuania (2008), in Croatia (2007 and 2012). In 2010, carte blanche entrusted to American commissioners enabled the organisation of Spatial City: An Architecture of Idealism, the first itinerant exhibition of the Frac collections in the United States with artist residencies designed for each of the project stages in Chicago, Milwaukee and Detroit.

From 2011 to 2013, Platform has coordinated with the 23 Frac the preparation of The Pleiades – the 30th anniversary of the Frac. The Pléiades was cascaded on a national and regional level. These exhibitions take place in each region then give rise to an exhibition and synthesis at les Abattoirs Frac-Midi Pyrénées, the first presentation to bring together the 23 Frac.
In the framework of the 30th anniversary and to highlight the major changes accomplished over the last ten years, the itinerant exhibition Frac – New architectures was coproduced with the Centre Pompidou.

In 2014, Platform has been coordinating A Republic of Art, the Frac’s 30th Anniversary international installment, conceived in collaboration with the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven (the Netherlands). This project aims was to outline a map of recent cultural history based on artworks that were produced in the past thirty years. This exhibition presented a selection of works that demonstrate the way Frac collections are among the finest in reflecting art and an entirely globalized society.
Platform’s actions are also conducted internationally with other exhibitions projects which will take place in Singapour and Korea in 2016-2017.
